VeriSign and i-DNS.net Announce Availability of iClient v3.0 Multilingual Resolution Client
Free Plug-in is available for resolving VeriSign multilingual testbed domain names

USA, VeriSign Inc., 23 January 2001 -- VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN) and i-DNS.net International (i-DNS.net) today announced the availability of iClient v3.0 for use in the VeriSign Multilingual Domain Names Testbed. iClient v3.0 is a free plug-in that converts a non-English character domain name into the name's ASCII compatible encoding, or ACE, representation, the format used for registration and resolution of domain names in the testbed. The application does this conversion transparently within the user's computer.

VeriSign has made the iClient v3.0 software available for download from the VeriSign Global Registry Services Web site. The client is 483KB in size, making it a manageable download. This, or another resolution client, will be necessary for anyone who wishes to use the multilingual testbed names in their native characters.

The i-DNS.net iClient v3.0 is a Windows based plug-in that enables access to Web sites using their newly registered multilingual com, net, and org domain names. It is compatible with Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000, and commonly used browsers like Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. Additional operating system and application compatibility information is available in the client documentation.

"We are pleased to offer iClient v3.0 as part of the resolution process for the Multilingual Domain Names Testbed," said Bruce Chovnick, General Manager of VeriSign Global Registry Services. "It provides end-users with a critical component for creating true functionality and access to names in the testbed."

VeriSign's Multilingual Domain Names Testbed has begun its final stage, resolution. More details about the resolution stage were also released today (see, "VeriSign Announces Resolution Stage of Multilingual Domain Names Testbed Has Begun," January 22, 2001). By late-March or early-April, domain names registered in the testbed will be visible in the com, net, and org top-level domains. The Multilingual Domain Names Testbed, which began accepting registrations on November 10, 2000, currently supports domain names that contain characters used by the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages.

"Resolution of the multilingual domain names ushers in the next chapter of efforts to internationalize the Internet," said Michael Ng, Chief Executive Officer of i-DNS.net. "i-DNS.net is proud to continue partnering with VeriSign in this significant task."

Registrations in the Multilingual Domain Names Testbed may be made through any of the active ICANN-accredited registrars who have passed the multilingual certification. A list of these multilingual certified registrars can be found on the VeriSign Global Registry Services Web site.
